3-3. SERVICING. Servicing consists of cleaning and painting the tripod.
a. Cleaning. To clean the tripod, proceed as follows.
WARNING
Dry cleaning solvent, P-D-680, used to clean parts is potentially dangerous to personnel and
property. Avoid repeated and prolonged contact with skin. Do not use near open flame or
excessive heat. Flash point of solvent is 100F. 138 (38 .-59 .) Do not use P-D-680 to

clean lens.
(1) Clean all metal parts with dry cleaning solvent and dry thoroughly.
(2) Clean all wooden parts with a soft cloth moistened with water and dry thoroughly.
(3) Clean the strap with saddle soap.
b. Painting. If necessary, paint normally painted surfaces in accordance with MIL-T-704, Type B. The theodolite
contact surface of the tripod head and threaded portion of the central fixing screw shall not be painted.
