Obtain the direct horizontal reading by

adding the recorded readings of the hori-
zontal and vernier scales.
m . To obtain reverse readings:
Release the vertical lock (2) and rap-

idly rotate the telescope 180 degrees
about the horizontal axis; tighten the
vertical lock.
Release the horizontal lock (3) and
rotate the theodolite alidade 180
degrees (clockwise); tighten the hori-
zontal lock.
Record the reverse horizontal and

vernier scale readings in the same
manner as used for direct readings.
Add horizontal and vernier scale read-
ings to obtain reverse horizontal read-
ing.
